Welcome to our weekly newsletter!
Wingspan is launched this Friday 8th March - as expected this is a highly anticipated game and has already sold out.. We were allocated on stock and we have emailed everyone with a Wingspan preorder prior to 1st March.
The good news is that a reprint is already underway. Our most credible information tells us that a restock is expected late May/Early June and that any preorders we place with them before 11th March should be guaranteed to be filled. So if you want to be sure of a copy in the next restock be sure you get your preorder in before then
The other information we have says that a restock is due in April - but we're taking that with a pinch of salt - but I guess there is a chance.
On to the rest of this week's new arrivals... we finally have a decent number of new releases after a quiet few weeks....
Sherlock Holmes is dead! And with London's greatest detective out of the way, those with villainous minds decide to wreak as much terror as possible on the populace — and you are one of those dastardly no-goodniks!
While Europe sits unprotected in Victorian Masterminds, you and other players send your henchmen to different cities to use their varied abilities, collect material for your steampunk-inspired contraptions, destroy buildings, and complete missions. At the same time, the Secret Service follows your path of destruction. Every contraption is unique and allows you to take different actions, leading to highly strategic, asymmetric gameplay.
In more detail, during the game, players take turns placing one of their five agent tokens — Henchman, Machine, Saboteur, Pilot, Number 2 — face down on one of the five action spaces. As soon as three tokens are on a space, those tokens are flipped and activated, first in first out, with each agent carrying out its individual action in addition to whatever takes place in that space. When an evil mastermind completes their contraption or the Secret Service brings this villainy to a halt, the game ends, and whoever has generated the most victory points wins.
Astoria is a land bustling with productivity and growth! New towns, factories, and railroads are springing up across the land. A few savvy business tycoons (you and your opponents) are determined to make your fortunes on the crest of this wave. These tycoons start out as the producers of the key commodities: wheat to feed the growing towns and factories, wood and iron to build them, coal to fuel the trains and factories, and manufactured goods and luxuries to fill the insatiable demand of the animals of Astoria.
Cornering the market for the most valuable commodities can create small fortunes that can be invested in the new businesses, turning them into huge fortunes. The sky is the limit during this Gilded Age!
In Raccoon Tycoon, players try to produce the most valuable commodities in an ever-changing marketplace. They then use those commodities to build towns, or sell them at the best price to secure great profits that can be used to win auctions for the all-important railroads. The profits may also be used to buy powerful buildings that give the players power-ups or bonuses in production. Owning the best towns and railroads determines victory. There can be only one "top dog" in Astoria. Is it you?
It could have been so great! A nice, comfortable journey on a luxurious ship...
Unfortunately, your ship got hit by a storm on the way to India and sank. With your last bit of strength and a huge amount of luck, you made it to the banks of a desert island. Through a miracle, you are not hurt, but you are exhausted and disheartened. How will you escape from this unfamiliar desert island? Or maybe the island is not so deserted after all? As a group of shipwrecked passengers, you need to survive, explore the island, and find a way home.
Adventure Island tells a continuous story in multiple parts. Players have to work together to survive. Their decisions influence the development of the story and add new elements to the game. Achievements reached throughout the game unlock permanent bonuses. With so much to explore and no destruction of components, Adventure Island can be played over and over again.
Crown of Emara
Good times in the tiny kingdom of Emara: During the reign of King Thedorius the Wise, wars, uprisings, and other inconveniences became a thing of the past. Thedorius always cared more for the well-being of his subjects than for power or riches. Therefore, only the nobleman who is able to care for Emara's citizens as well as Thedorius himself did shall become Thedorius' successor and wear the Crown of Emara.
To test the skills of all aspirants, Thedorius and his counselors issue a challenge of practical use: Whoever can persuade the majority of the newly arrived citizens in the capital to support their claim shall become the future king of Emara. To achieve this, players have to cater to the citizens' needs and — most importantly — offer proper housing for everyone. This means that promoting the building activities in town will be one of the major tasks of the candidates.
Crown of Emara skillfully combines card actions with worker movement actions, allowing players to plan their turns carefully during their downtime. The two counselors available to every player move in two separate roundabouts, requiring players to optimize every move. Additionally, two scoring tracks lead to a multidimensional playstyle as only the lower score counts towards victory and thus both tracks have to be advanced equally.
My First Castle Panic
My First Castle Panic, like its predecessor Castle Panic, is a co-operative game in which players work together to defend their castle, but this game removes the reading requirement of the earlier one and fosters the development of educational skills, such as identifying colors and shapes, problem solving, and turn taking.
In the game, monsters follow a single path toward a single, large, eye-catching castle, which is protected by one wall. Each step toward the castle is identified by a color and a shape. Players hold cards in their hands with cute defenders who also have a color and shape. When a card is played that matches the location of the monster, that monster is captured and thrown in the dungeon. Tension builds as more monsters are placed and move along the path toward the castle. If the castle is destroyed, the players lose; if it still stands when all the monsters are in the dungeon, the players win.
It's a well-known fact that with the wrong audience, any film can become a horror show. For the audience in Showtime! that wants to enjoy the offered blockbusters and score points, the right seating choice is the all-important factor. They want to avoid having tall men in front of them, children who are blowing bubbles in the middle of the row, or purses blocking neighboring seats. Many moviegoers also have certain preferences. They would like to sit together with their partner, be surrounded by men or women, or sit in the first row. One can only hope that before the start of a show, a riot doesn't break out and chase people away from their chosen seats. Whoever's visitors have had the most pleasure in the cinema after three rounds wins.
Showtime! (formerly called Film ab!) is an easily accessible, brisk family game with a funny theme that everyone knows from their everyday life. The clever placement mechanism and the different characters, each of whom one has likely encountered in the cinema, provide great entertainment at the game table.
