What will be your legacy?

With the release of Pandemic Legacy : Season 2 next week I wanted to talk briefly about Legacy games and get your thoughts about them...

If you don't already know - a legacy game is a game where the story, rules, board, components, etc can all change over the course of a series of will likely also have to destroy game parts and sometimes once you've played through the story you can't play the game anymore. In the case of Pandemic Legacy Season 1, you will play between 12 and 24 games...

Come and See us at Geek & Buy in Harlow, Essex this weekend!

This weekend sees the inaugural Geek & Buy event at Harlow, Essex and we'll be attending with our own stall (it'll be our first event as a trader!)

This not-for-profit event promises to be a 'bring & buy fayre for all geeky things' and in addition to it's bring and buy (which anyone can bring items for) will also feature several traders (such as ourselves). There will also some be some game demos courtesy of a local gaming group and possibly some open gaming space.

There's been a bit of a storm in online gaming communities this week - Tom Vasel (of The Dice Tower) voiced some opinions about local game stores on his weekly Board Game Breakfast Show - and as far as I can tell many people have over-reacted and gone straight for the pitchforks without really hearing what he was saying...

There is a common philosophy in gaming that you shouldn't buy online and you should support your Friendly Local Game Store (FLGS) and Tom Vasel questioned this. There are many bad stores out there and he basically said that those bad stores don't deserve your support - they should earn it. And I agree...

Weekly Newsletter 29/09/2017

This is a copy of the weekly email newsletter that we sent out today...

You may have noticed that you earn reward points on your may also have noticed that nowhere on the website does it say what these are for! I didn't notice that until a customer pointed that out and I will be putting that information up next week... if you hadn't worked it out already, you earn points on your completed purchases and these are redeemable in the checkout against your future orders (each point is worth a penny - every little helps ;) ).

There's not much in the way of New Releases arriving next week but we do have quite a few restocks and a couple of new editions....

Are you going to explore the 7th Continent?

A couple of years ago I saw a new game looking for funding on Kickstarter - it was like nothing I'd seen before and promised exploration, story and it looked absolutely beautiful! It looked to be a 'Choose your own Adventure' book, in board game form - I loved those books as a kid and I REALLY wanted this game.

Weekly Newsletter 22/09/2017

This is a copy of the weekly email newsletter that we sent out today...

Next week is pretty quiet for new additions, so let me tell you about a new feature we've been trialling this week...

We are having a 'Deal of the Day' every weekday - a special price on one game each day that lasts just 24 hours and when they're gone - they're gone!

We have added a new button to the menu on the website which will take you directly to that day's deal. But, if you haven't already, be sure to like and follow our Facebook page and our Twitter account as they'll also be announced there each morning.

Are you looking for Board Gaming Friends?

Board Game Trading & Chat UK, is a community on Facebook that has been in existence for a good few years now and is constantly growing (it just passed 7,000 members). Many Facebook groups can be pretty toxic, I'm sure we've all seen that - full of trolls, spammers, con-men and generally nasty people. This group has none of that - and it has just one rule : "Don't be a d*ck"

It's curious how coincidences can happen and bring games to your attention...

It's curious how coincidences can happen and bring games to your attention...

I tend not to like many older board games, many haven't aged well and show their age, but at last weekend's Field of Games we got to play a few older games - one of which was Ave Caesar - a great little card driven racing game with a good dose of take that thrown in, it was great fun and didn't feel that old - I fancied getting a copy myself, but it's out of print and I'm not paying £95 for a copy on ebay.

Anyway, among next week's new arrivals is a game called Downforce, a card-driven racing game with awesome little F1 style cars, so it caught my eye - it's board reminded me a bit of Ave Caesar. I always try to research games before I stock them, so I went to YouTube to check it out and found a review on The Dice Tower. It looked great... and then Tom Vasel said that his favourite racing game was Ave Caesar... but that he likes this one more! I was sold and it's arriving next week :)

Field of Games was a resounding success!

We got back yesterday from the inaugural 'Field of Games', a 4 day camping & board gaming meet and I have to say, it felt like it was a resounding success!

If you haven't heard of 'Field of Games', it was an informal event where we all booked a camping pitch at the same place and the same time and then played board games for 4 days! It was organised by Ian Hartwell (with a little assistance from a few others of us) who managed to find a site that also had 3 marquees with tables, chairs, lighting, 2 massive barbecues and a fire pit for us to use as well! There were over 20 camping units and approximately 50 people in attendance and LOTS of games played - many of us loaded our car boots with games and then parked them, with the boots open, next to the marquee providing quite an impressive game library.

The Omnitray enters it's final week on Kickstarter!

We posted about the wonderful Omnitray on our Facebook page a couple of weeks ago, but in case you missed it, or you needed reminding we are going to talk about it again here :)

"Omnitray is a modular player aid that is fully customisable to keep your play area organised and will help speed up game play. Omnitray was not created with one particular game in mind, but was engineered to be utilised with many different games. It comes complete with a range of interchangeable modules that have a multitude of functions."
